When the outside manuallyle on the lavatory tank is pressed down it raises a trip lever that pulls the flushing device off its seat. As rising water forces the float ball upward, it gradually shuts off the inlet valve until the flow of water is stopped entirely when the tank is full. When incoming water rises to a predetermined point (usually 8 this system is simpler than bullock controls because it does not need a ball float or float rod has fewer internal parts that can malfunction or wear out. Traps are a section of the drainpipe that has been bent formed into a 180-degree curve followed directly by another 180-degree curve with the drainpipe going through the floor (an s-trap) or by a 90-degree curve that leads to a main drain stack located inside a partition (a p-trap).
